WAR FOR THE TURK
The Only Arbitrament He Knows, Prof. Pupin Says.
To the Editor of The New York Times:
In his letter to The Times my coleague, Prof. Gottheil of Columbia University, deplores the fact that The Hague tribunal is not heard from to-day, and that, in place of arbitration, we have in the Balkans a barbarous war. Knowing Prof. Gottheil's pro-Turkish smypathies as I do, I wonder what he would say if the unspeakable Turks had been more successul by the barbarous methods employed to-day in deciding the fate of some 7,000,000 ot 8,000,000 Christians who have been enslaved for over 500 years.
Prof. Gottheil begs that you "enlighten his poor and failing mind' but I am afraid that his particular mental malady is hopeless, otherwise he could easily see that the Balkan revolution could not possibly be arbitrated out of existence. This revolution is a struggle for the inalienable rights of man, among which are life, liberty, and pursuits of happiness.
...
...
Without their destruction there is no hope for the enslaved Christian rayah. This is the very task of the allied Balkan kingdoms, and everybody who believes in the inalienable right of man wishes the success and will bless the for ridding Europe of a filthy pest which menaced the life of modern civilization for 500 years. M. I. PUPIN.

TURKS BEATEN IN A SECOND GREAT BATTLE
Bulgarians Believed to Have Taken Tchatalja Forts and to Have Clear Road to Constantinople
SOFIA. Nov. 6 - The Turks have suffered another severe defeat between Sarai and Tchorlu.
The Losses on both sides far exceeded those at the battle of Lule-Burgas.
The fighting in this battle lasted two days, and the Turks offered desperate resistance.
This information was conveyed in official reports received here at midnight.

PERIL OF MASSACRE IN CONSTANTINOPLE
"...The last occurrence of this nature was witnessed on Aug.26 to 29, 1896, when about 8,000 Armenians were slaughtered in cold blood in the streets.
In those three days the city was literally turned over to murderous crowds. Bands of Turks, often led by some fanatical priest, marched on the ill-paved thoroughfares shouting that the Sultan had permitted the killing of all unbelievers and that they were going to free the country from the pollution of infidel citizens. Not a policeman was in sight, and it was plain that the details of the butchery had been carefully planned..."
