    Bulgarian warships (pr. 205, "OSA")

    Hello,
I am looking for any information about Soviet project 205 (NATO codename "Osa") warships in Bulgarian Navy. There is a lot of incosistency in the literature (even Bulgarian). In Russian publications I found that: R-73 (Yard No. 439; in Soviet Black Sea Fleet 19.09.1965-1970, since 1968 in conservation), R-30 (Yard No. 464, in BSF 1966-1970) and R-176 were transferred in early 70's (1971 or 1972) to Bulgaria. Next, the modified units of these warships (project 205U, not the export version 205ER!), were transferred, e.g. R-169 (Yard No. 473??, in BSF 1968-?).
I.Todorov has written that 3 Osa-I (pr. 205) units were transferred in 1971 (Smerch, Svetkawitsa, Tayfun) followed by three Osa-II (205M??) units (Uragan, Burya, Grum). Ch.Chonev in his book gives the same names of these ships but claims that first three are of Osa-II type (Smerch - pennant number 111, Svetkawitsa - 101, Tayfun -102). Units of Osa-I class has the names: Uragan - 103, Burya - 112, Grum - 113 (built 1966-70, transferred between 1977 and 1982).
    Western periodicals (e.g. Jane's Fighting Ships, Weyers Flotten Taschenbuch) claims, that in Bulgarian Navy serve 2 Osa-I ships (Burya -103, Tayfun - 112) and four Osa-II (Uragan - 102, Grum - 104 (ex 101), Svetkawitsa - 111, Smerch - 113) with previous pennant numbers (till 1985) 21, 22, etc.

      Thank you Admiral
Your information is very usuful for me. Thanks a lot for the link, it is very interesting, but brings new questions. It is stated (Military unit 34030) that 2 Osa-I units raised Bulgarian flag on September 22nd, 1980. Does it mean that two earlier received ships of project 205 were replaced in 1980? Comparing Bulgarian and English versions of the site one can came to conclusion that: No 111 is Svetkavitsa, No 112 Tayfun, No 113 Smerch. Does the pennant numbers of misssile boats have changed since 1985?

Well, according to I. Todorov the names and penant numbers are as I mantioned. Until the 1990 the names are equal the numbers as the post shows. According the Jane Fighting Ships 1980 Bulgariq have 4 rocket boats - 3 Osa I and 1 Osa II. Thair penant numbers was 20 (Osa II), 21, 22, 23.
The torpedo boats wearing penant numbers wrom 24 to 29.
That is all I can say about the names and numbers of the boats. But after the receiving of "Mulniya" pr. 1241.1 she received the penant number 101 from 1990 to the beginig of the 2000 when the new penant number is 43. Penant number of "Svetkavitza". Were changed to 104.

The Polish missile boats pr. 205 were so secret that were put into service as torpedo boats! In 60' their pennant numbers were changed frequently but one can not find these changes in documents from military archives. We do not know all Soviet names of Polish Osa's as well as yard numbers.
Thanks once more Odzava for your help.

Yes, of course. I have only photos from Chonev's book as well as colour photo (from internet) of No. 102.

Be careful, when you are reading Chonev's book, Crolick! The book is not very reliable as source. Better use Ilia Todorov's books

OK, but I was able to buy Chonev's book in Poland, Todorov's book was unobtainable (I only have his article from newspaper OKRETY WOJENNE).
