To be fair to both sides, it seems Renown was having her troubles too, especially in ''A" turret. According to "Hit First, Hit Hard" by Peter Smith, Renown was forced to reduce speed from 29 to 24 knots to keep her forward guns firing once the action turned into a headlong chase with her guns firing directly over the bow. At higher speed, "A" turret was deluged with seawater everytime the gun breeches were opened to reload the guns. Mr. Smith does not mention any electrical or other problems with Renown's turrets and a high rate of fire was maintained in the appalling sea and weather conditions.

Of course the German ships, bent on escape, could not afford to reduce speed.

Videv, I don't know if Scharnhorst's turret problems were fixed by the time of the North Cape battle. Maybe someone else can answer your question. Our forum, afterall, is loaded with experts in all manner of naval warfare and warship design history.
